Phoenix Youth is a local organisation with a global mindset working with young people to create positive, opportunities for growth and development through innovative and inspiring youth work experiences.
A unique project that will place young people at the core of an adventure that will stretch the boundaries of innovative youth work alongside Bray Wanderers and Ardmore Rovers while also capturing the combined essence of three well established and outstanding youth led groups, Celtic Youth Bray, Be Well Bray and New Sound Youth Project
Who we are?
After the closure of the Hi Rez Youth Centre, a group of leaders, parents and members were very much in favour of finding a new home for our hugely successful model of youth provision that has been endorsed at both National and European level as an example of ‘Best Practice in Youth Work’.
Phoenix Youth believe that a partnership arrangement with Celtic Youth Bray, Be Well Bray, New Sound Music and a collaboration with Bray Wanderers and Ardmore Rovers would signal the emergence of a unique, dynamic and multi faceted Community based project. We feel that Bray and surrounding areas would benefit tremendously from the development of a new brand of youth project that will will have the values of Community at its very heart.
LONG-ESTABLISHED family businesses are almost a thing of the pastas we edge our way forward into the 21st century.
Indeed the era of the family grocery, family butcher and family drapery is slowly passing - as globalisation brings with it the mega multi-nationals which are now a part and parcel of our commercial landscape.
Happily, the family run retailer, which usually brings with it traditions handed down over generations in the trade - friendly personalised service and `the customer is always right' approach amongst then is still very much in evidence in Bray.
And Tansey and Co of Quinsboro Road are perhaps the local record-breakers in this regard, being an established business landmark in the town centre for the past 80 years, and still going strong.
As gents, ladies and children's outfitters, the Quinsboro Road business has enjoyed generations of support from across a broad catchment area which spans the length and breath of Wicklow, and further beyond.
Established by Roscommon-man Owen Tansey back in 1920, Tansey's quickly became a trading success story in Bray.
The business expanded in the early 1930's to incorporate an adjoining property on Quinsboro Road to stock ladieswear and children's clothing for the first time.
Upon the death in 1965 of Owen Tansey the business passed to his nephew Patrick J. Flanagan, and was in turning taken over by his son Kieran Flanagan following his death in 1993.
A by-word in Bray retailing for quality goods and service, Kieran Flanagan believes that the success of the business lies in the preservation at Tanseys of the traditions and standards of retail shopping.
`Things have obviously changed over the years, but by and large the traditions upon which our business has been based still remains', he says.
Tansey's have become stockists of some of the leading brand names in contemporary clothing too, and are also school uniform stockists to St. Cronan's, St. Patrick's, Loreto and Presentation College in the town.
And of the future Kieran Flanagan is optimistic. `Business has been going very well and at this stage I would be confident that Tansey's will be around to celebrate it's 100th birthday and beyond', he said.
